The following are typical of some of the high calorie foods that should preferably be avoided, or taken in very small quantities only:

Meats:

Sausages and pates of all sorts; tinned and similar processed foods; minced meat and products made from mince, such as hamburgers, unless minced at home from lean meat, poultry, etc. Also, meat cuts where the fat cannot easily be removed, such as shoulder or belly of lamb and pork, spare ribs and beef rib joints and duck and geese.

Dairy Products:

All hard cheeses; all liquid products unless made from semi-skimmed milk; all solid products unless "light" or "low-fat".

Flour and Starchy Products:

All pastries, pies, cakes, biscuits, etc.Sugar Products:

All jams, honey, treacle, chocolates, sweets and fruit preserved in syrup.

Condiments, etc:

Mayonnaise, salad cream, French dressing, etc.

Drinks and Beverages:

All alcoholic drinks, mixers and beverages that are not special, sugar-free diet products. Many so-called "fresh" fruit juices also have had sugar added to them.
