Useful Information

The following are all fairly low calorie foods and one can, within reason, eat as much of them as desired:

Meats:

All lean meats, especially poultry, and meats where the excess fat and/or skin can be easily removed.

Dairy Products:

Low-fat or fat-free cottage cheese, crème frèche, yoghurts, eggs and special "light" spreads in very small quantities only

Fruits:

Melons and berries are particularly low-calorie whilst apples, pears, oranges and satsumas are possibly more filling.

Vegetables and Salads:

Leafy vegetables and fibrous vegetables such as runner beans, celery, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower are especially good.

Flour and Starchy Products:

Bread, rice, potatoes and pasta all have a very high water content and, as such, in small portions are not fattening. The damage is caused by the sauces, spreads, etc. put on them!

Sugar Products

There are no low-calorie sugary foods; even foods especially made for diabetics are often high-calorie because different sugars to the ordinary sugar have been added instead.

Condiments, etc.:

It is possible to get very low-calorie or even fat-free mayonnaises - a bit of added vinegar can enhance the flavour.

Drinks and Beverages:

Special diet drinks are acceptable, as are tea and coffee with sweeteners and low-alcohol
